The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) will analyze the sale of 11 gas stations and 16 commercial points of Makro to the Muffato Group.

There are 24 Makro units in Brazil, and the company has been trying to sell all of its properties and exit the Brazilian market since at least last year, as Valor reported at the time.

✔️ Makro operates in the wholesale and retail food self-service segment and belongs to the SHV Group, a company of Dutch origin that develops activities such as trade and distribution of LPG and LNG, industrial services, transport solutions, among others.

✔️ The Muffato Group, in turn, is also present in the wholesale and retail food self-service sector in cities in Paraná and the interior of São Paulo, and in the marketing of fuels in Paraná.

As justification for the transaction, the Muffato Group claimed that the business is in line with its strategy to invest in the expansion of its activities to other states and regions in Brazil. For Makro, the purchase is in line with the plan to concentrate its efforts on redirecting its national focus.

Industry sources estimate the value of the deal at between R$800 million and R$1.1 billion. The company did not disclose a figure.

“The asset transfer process is expected to be completed in the shortest possible time, subject to the fulfillment of certain conditions, including the approval of CADE,”

the companies said in a note, citing Brazil’s antitrust regulator.
