Weekly Newsletter on Chinese Antitrust 23.08-29.08.2021

This week, China adopted the first compliance document for platforms: the country's first Competition Compliance Guidelines for platform companies were published in Zhejiang Province. Moreover, Han Wenxiu, Deputy Director for day-to-day work of the Office of the Central Commission for Finance and Economics, noted that the policy on Internet platforms applies to all equally and is aimed at unlawful behaviour, not only at private enterprises. The Cyberspace Administration of China has released a Draft Regulation on Algorithms for Recommendations on the Internet. On August 23rd, SAMR representatives met with Alan Bibi, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China). Vice-Head of SAMR Tian Shihong noted the importance of a stable and favorable business environment for foreign enterprises in China. He expressed the hope that AmCham China will continue being a "bridge" between US-owned companies and Chinese enterprises.
