Digital Economy and Competition Protection: the Brazilian Experience

On April 11, Alexandre Barreto de Souza, General Superintendent of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense of Brazil (CADE), delivered an honorary report at the XXIV Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development at the National Research University Higher School of Economics. The visit of the General Superintendent was organized by the BRICS International Competition Law and Policy Centre.

Alexandre Barreto de Souza has more than 25 years of experience in the public sector, including in the areas of procedural reform, fraud prevention and prevention of bid-rigging. Within the scope of his activities in the civil service are government management and accounting, control of procurements and contracts, tackling fraud and corruption in government, and fighting cartels in government procurements. Previously, he was President of CADE and Auditor of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU).

Mr. de Souza delivered an honorary report on "Digital Economy and Competition Protection: International Approaches and Brazilian Experience". The meeting was moderated by Alexey Ivanov, Director of the BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre.
