Next step is a 15-day period during which CADE advisors or competitors can express their opinions.

The General Superintendence of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (SG/CADE) has approved the acquisition of CasaCor, owned by Abril Comunicação, by Editora Globo. The deal was announced on April 13 and was awaiting approval from the antitrust authority. The unrestricted approval was published Tuesday (28) in the Federal Official Gazette.

The next step involves a 15-day period during which council members or competitors can express their opinions. Any objections will lead the operation to be judged by the tribunal. If no objections are raised, the transaction will be considered definitively approved.

During the regulatory review period, the operations of both parties remain independent, with the production teams for CasaCor exhibitions and the brand’s website continuing their schedules and plans without changes.

The transaction includes all activities of CasaCor, including contracts made with its 17 local franchises and three from abroad (Bolivia, Costa Rica, and Peru), as well as the affiliate Instituto CasaCor.

The companies informed the CADE that, for Editora Globo, the operation is part of a strategy to strengthen its editorial portfolio and expand initiatives related to content, events, and experiences in the architecture, design, decoration, urbanism, and lifestyle sectors.

For Abril Comunicações, the transaction represents “a good opportunity for capitalization.”

In its analysis, the CADE’s technical department concluded that the combined market share of the companies remains below 20% — a threshold above which dominant position and potential market power are presumed. Therefore, the SG concluded that the operation should not harm the competitive environment.

The SG’s report states that, regarding the architecture, design, and decoration segment, Grupo Globo operates with the brands Casa e Jardim and Casa Vogue, organizing events, fairs, and workshops, producing content, and special advertising projects. The CADE also noted that CasaCor has a website through which it publishes news about its exhibitions, exhibitors, and designed and displayed spaces, along with topics related to architecture, interior design, landscaping, art, and “lifestyle.”

The CasaCor brand was created in 1987 in São Paulo as an annual decoration exhibition. In addition to celebrating established professionals in the field, CasaCor exhibitions set trends, often spotlighting new talents. The brand’s events provide experiences on various living styles, showcasing brands and products, and generating significant box office revenues, as seen in the last São Paulo edition in August 2025, held in Parque da Água Branca, which attracted about 130,000 visitors.

With this transaction, Editora Globo expands its portfolio in the “lifestyle” and culturally significant events segment, reinforcing Grupo Globo’s commitment to promoting events that resonate with Brazilian identity and aesthetics. The integration of CasaCor further strengthens the Essência Globo principle of Brazilian identity, which values cultural diversity and national talent across all its initiatives.
