Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) will review the pricing of 13 widely used medicines sold in pharmacies.
The list includes throat medications Lizobact and Septolete Total, the painkiller Pentalgin NEO, the cough medicine Rengalin and others.
The FAS said it had first analyzed the medicines most in demand among consumers in the retail pharmacy market. The drugs in question are not included on Russia’s list of essential and vital medicines, meaning their prices are not subject to government regulation.
However, the agency stressed that medicines not included on the list should also remain affordable for consumers.
The FAS has therefore sent pharmaceutical companies requests for information on the pricing of 13 medicines that are in high demand.
“The FAS has requested information on sales volumes for these medicines, as well as detailed data on how their prices are formed,” the agency said in a press release. “If signs of violations of antimonopoly law are identified, the FAS will take appropriate action.”
