Senate Approves Appointments of Superintendent General, Counselors and Chief Attorney for CADE

Names were authorized in the CAE and confirmed by the House Plenary.

On 4th of April, Plenary of the Federal Senate approved the nominations of Alexandre Barreto de Souza for the position of general superintendent and of Victor Oliveira Fernandes and Gustavo Augusto Freitas de Lima for the vacancies of directors of the Administrative Council of Economic Defense, Juliana Oliveira Domingues was also approved for the position of chief prosecutor of the municipality.

The nominees confirmed by the Plenary had already been approved in a meeting held on 4th of April at the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) of the Senate. The servers will now be appointed by the President of the Republic, Jair Messias Bolsonaro.

Pursuant to articles 6, 12 and 16 of Law No. 12,529/11, the new director will serve for a term of four years, while the general superintendent and the chief attorney will occupy the positions for a period of two years.

Alexandre Barreto de Souza is a doctoral candidate in Political Science at the University of Lisbon, a master's in Public Administration at the University of Brasília, as well as a specialist and bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the same institution. A public servant since 1993, Barreto was president of CADE from 2017 to 2021.

Victor Oliveira Fernandes holds a doctorate in Commercial Law from the University of São Paulo, a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Brasília. Servant in the Regulatory Specialist career at the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) since 2015, he has served as chief of staff of a counselor at CADE and as chief of staff of a minister of the Federal Supreme Court.

Gustavo Augusto Freitas de Lima holds a master's degree in Law from UniCeub, graduated in Naval Sciences from Escola Naval and in Law from Universidade Estácio de Sá, with a postgraduate degree in Public Law from the same institution. He has been a federal attorney at the Attorney General's Office since 2006, having been director of the Litigation Department of the Federal Attorney General's Office (PGF). He currently serves as Deputy Assistant Chief of Economic Policy at the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic. He was on the Board of Directors of the Planning and Logistics Company.

Juliana Oliveira Domingues holds a PhD in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, a Master's in Law from the Federal University of Santa Catarina and a degree in Law from the State University of Londrina. She was National Consumer Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), president of the National Council for Combating Piracy, president of the National Council for Consumer Protection. She is also the former director of the MJSP's Department of Consumer Protection and Defense.
