The local ticketing platform will continue to operate as a standalone business headquartered out of Cape Town.

International ticket marketplace Ticketmaster is broadening its reach into Africa by acquiring South Africa’s Quicket, it announced on Wednesday.

Ticketmaster, which specialises in international live ticketing for concerts, sports events, music, and theatre, launched in South Africa in 2022.

Quicket, a cloud-based ticketing platform that was started in Cape Town in 2011, has become an important player in Africa’s general admission, events, and festival ticketing sphere. Since 2017, it has also expanded into Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Botswana.

The local group offers a self-managed ticketing platform that allows anyone to create an online profile for an event and start accepting payment for tickets in local currencies and payment methods.

“The acquisition will allow more African venues, artists, and promoters to benefit from Quicket’s regional expertise and Ticketmaster’s global reach and service,”

says Ticketmaster president Mark Yovich.

It will also enable the expansion of digital technologies across the continent, like secure encrypted mobile tickets. “Combined with Ticketmaster’s global reach and service, the combined business will be able to service events of all sizes,” adds Yovich.

James Tagg, managing director of Quicket, says the partnership with Ticketmaster is a “landmark moment in connecting African artists to a global audience and enhancing the experience for local fans and promoters alike”.

Under Tagg’s leadership, Quicket will continue to operate as a standalone business unit in Cape Town, the groups say.
