National Committee for Internet Economy Standardization Established

On August 29, in Beijing, the inaugural meeting and the first session of the National Technical Committee for the Development of Standards for Regulating the Platform Economy took place. The main goal of establishing the Committee is to promote the lawful conduct of business by internet platforms through the creation of unified standards, as well as to shift the industry’s focus from expansion in scale to improvement in quality.

At the meeting, the Committee’s charter, procedures for the development and revision of standards, the work plan for 2025–2026, as well as materials for the development of two national standards were reviewed and approved: “Basic Requirements for the Regulation of Marketing Live Streams” and “Standards for the Presentation of Compliance Data in E-commerce Operations.”

Fair Competition Policy Week 2025 in China

From September 8 to 12, themed events will be held across China as part of the annual Fair Competition Policy Week. Separate programs have been prepared for various central government agencies, as well as city and provincial administrations. For example, the SAMR schedule includes the 11th China International Forum on Fair Competition Policy, while the Cyberspace Administration will organize a collective signing by internet platforms of an initiative to protect the rights of gig economy workers.

One of the slogans of this year’s Competition Week is “Comprehensive Regulation of ‘Involutionary’ Competition” — a social phenomenon that in recent years has spread to the economic sphere and raised concerns among regulators.
