Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, met with Dr. Mahmoud Moustafa, the head of the Competition Protection Authority, to review the Authority's key efforts at the international level.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister affirmed the importance of monitoring the work of the Competition Protection Authority, given its crucial role in implementing policies that support competition; enhancing its impact on achieving economic growth, and supporting the state's efforts to attract various investments.

During the meeting, Dr. Mahmoud Moustafa presented the Authority's key international efforts, noting that, under the auspices of the Prime Minister, the results of the Voluntary Peer Review of the Competition Protection Law and Policies in the Arab Republic of Egypt were launched; prepared by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which reflected a significant and measurable improvement in the competition protection climate in Egypt over the past few years, receiving several commendations from international organizations and experts regarding the Egyptian government's efforts in promoting competition.

The head of the Competition Protection Authority presented some of the international commendations in this regard, confirming that Egypt has made significant progress in supporting competition in recent years, thanks to recently enacted legislation and measures, reflecting the state's commitment to enhancing the competitive business environment. It also highlighted the pioneering role played by the Egyptian Competition Protection Authority in both the Middle East and Africa, having launched the Arab Competition Network in 2022 and playing an important role in 2022 and 2023 in negotiations for the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement, particularly the protocol on competition policy.

International commendations also addressed Egypt's strong commitment, through the Competition Protection Authority, to the principles of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in promoting competition and combating monopolistic practices, by adopting effective policies to combat economic dominance and monopolistic practices, thereby supporting the achievement of a free and effective market at the regional level. This was coupled with mention of the Egyptian Competition Protection Authority's success in implementing policies and measures aimed at enhancing competitiveness and improving the business environment.

Dr. Mahmoud Moustafa also touched upon the results of the fruitful cooperation between the Egyptian Competition Protection Authority and the UNCTAD Training Centre for Competition in the Middle East and Africa, through organizing training programmes and holding international conferences with the participation of several international experts and representatives of international organizations concerned with competition policies.

He pointed out that this cooperation enhances Egypt's role as a central player in competition at both the continental and regional levels, contributing to the attraction of global experts in the field of competition to provide practical and professional training, exchange best practices to enhance institutional and technical efficiency, as well as reaching more countries in the Middle East and Africa through renewed partnerships, while strengthening institutional and technical capacities, and enabling competition authorities to be more prepared to tackle increasingly complex challenges.
