Ravneet Kaur will hold post for a period of 5 years from the date of assumption of charge or attaining 65 years of age.

The government has appointed IAS officer Ravneet Kaur as the Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI). With the appointment of a new Chairperson, the CCI can form the quorum needed to take action against the abuse of dominance complaints. Since the resignation of the previous head of the Commission, Ashok Kumar Gupta, last October, the agency has not been able to operate at full capacity, with Sanjita Verma acting as Chair.

Ravneet Kaur has served as the Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner at the Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management in Chandigarh. Kaur has held several positions in the government over the past two decades, including as chairperson of the India Tourism Development Corp between 2017 and 2019.

Kaur's appointment comes at a crucial time when the competition regulator's power has been substantially widened and it has been probing anti-trust issues against some of the big-tech players. The government is also planning to come out with a digital competition law.
