Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google announced that "in light of the extraordinary circumstances" it has paused Google ads in Russia. The ban applies to Google's search engine and YouTube video hosting, among other things. The move by the company follows similar pauses in Russia by Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) and Snap Inc (SNAP.N) after Russia's military actions in Ukraine.

Earlier Google banned Russian state-funded media from buying or selling advertising on the company's platforms.

On February 28, Roskomnadzor demanded that Google restrict access to untrue materials about military losses in Ukraine, which were distributed as part of contextual advertising Google Ads.

On March 3, the RCN sent a letter to Google "demanding that it immediately stop distributing false information of a political nature about the special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine on the territory of Russia".
