Chinese tech giant Tencent could become an important foreign ally of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard in their proposed $68.7 billion deal.

According to a Dealreporter item, which reviewed Chinese companies' responses to the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) of China, gaming giant Tencent was supportive of the Microsoft and Activision Blizzard merger.

At least one-third party in China has expressed its worries about the planned deal. At the same time, two companies, including Tencent, supported the deal. The name of the second company was not specified. Other major Chinese players include NetEase and MiHoYo, which runs the popular game Genshin Impact.

The publication does not report what arguments supporters and opponents of Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard are making.

The companies initially filed the transaction with SAMR in April under a "simplified procedure," though they were forced to file it under normal procedure.

The deal is already subject to numerous antitrust reviews and is being challenged in the U.S., the U.K. and the European Union. The European antitrust regulator will hold a hearing this week.
