Officials from Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) met with Margrethe Vestager, the European Commission executive vice-president for a Europe fit for the digital age.
This Friday (March 17), the president of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), Alexandre Cordeiro, received the executive vice president of the European Commission responsible for digital transformation, Margrethe Vestager. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the Brazilian debate on digital platforms regulation and discuss actions to intensify international cooperation between Brazil and the European Union (EU) regarding this agenda.
The meeting was held at CADE's headquarters in Brasilia, and was attended by the general superintendent Alexandre Barreto, the counselor Victor Oliveira, the chief economist Guilherme Resende, theambassador of the European Union (EU) in Brazil, Ignacio Ybáñez, and other members of the European delegation and of the Brazilian agency.
During the meeting, in addition to dealing with the competitive aspects of the Brazilian technology market and the discussions around the regulation of digital platforms, measures were agreed to enable closer bilateral cooperation between the EU and Brazil with regard to the digital agenda.
"CADE has been following all the national and international discussions on the theme, but it is important to reflect on the effects of a new regulation. If it really is a law, it must be efficient in practice and with clear definitions,"
said president Alexandre Cordeiro.
Margrethe Vestager's visit to Brazil from 15 until 17 March was part of a trip to Latin America under the Global Gateway strategy to establish deeper cooperation between the EU and the region. Executive Vice-President Vestager focused on enhancing collaboration in the areas of digital infrastructure and connectivity, research and innovation, and regulatory cooperation on data governance, cybersecurity, platforms and e-governance.
